Why I wrote
EARN YOUR HARD™
I wasn’t always disciplined or confident.
There was a time when I cared so much about fitting in that I became whoever I thought other people wanted me to be.
Then I went back to wrestling.
I started training, keeping promises to myself, and doing things I didn’t know if I could finish.
Eventually, I made varsity.
For the first time, I had real proof that I could say I was going to do something, work toward it, and actually follow through.
But I got something wrong.
I started believing that the more I suffered, the stronger I’d become.
Then I injured my shoulder.
I learned that harder isn't always better.
I couldn’t train the way I had before. My routines fell apart. My grades slipped. I started caring about other people’s opinions again.
I felt like I had become the kid I thought I’d already left behind.
I thought confidence meant becoming unbreakable.
I learned that it meant knowing I could rebuild.
So I started again.
One decision at a time.
Those experiences changed the way I thought about confidence, hard work, and what it means to keep your word to yourself.
They’re a big part of why I wrote Earn Your Hard.
I’m 16.
I don’t have life figured out. I’m not writing this because I have all the answers. I’m still learning too.
My faith is still growing too. But it’s part of how I understand who I am, what I’ve been given, and the responsibility I have for what I do with it.
But I have learned something:
Confidence needs proof.
Make the promise.
Do the work.
Build the proof.
Trust yourself a little more.
I’m still doing it too.
